"I wasn't real happy with the team's performance today," coach Jim Nagle said after his Stony Brook debut. "We saw some good things today, but it's going to take some time, and the guys understand that. I like this team a lot and I'm excited going forward."
Stony Brook redshirt freshman Mike Rooney scored two of his three goals off feeds from Graham Adams in the fourth quarter to cut a four-goal deficit to 12-10 with 3:20 to go.
But Brent Adams came back with an unassisted score with 1:34 left to provide the final margin for Fairfield.
Adams and John Snellman each added three goals for Fairfield.
Russ Bonanno, Kyle Belton and Mike Andreassi each had a goal for Stony Brook.
Adams and Campbell had two assists each.
