It appears the Albert Haynesworth era in Washington may be coming to a merciful end.

The defensive tackle was inactive for yesterday's 31-7 loss to the Giants because he was late to a team meeting and missed practice because of an illness this week — and he wasn't happy about it.

Said Haynesworth: "I was sick, so I did show up a minute late, but I don't think that's a reason to sit out. ...I was ready to play."

According to a tweet from Chris Russell of ESPN 980 in Washington, the team is "75 percent" likely to release Haynesworth this week.

Haynesworth has been woefully ineffective since signing a seven-year, $100 million contract with the Redskins before the 2009 season. This season, he hasn't started a game, and has just 13 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks.

He also clashed with coach Mike Shanahan about not wanting to be used as a nose tackle in the team's 3-4 defense.

So cutting ties with the big boy might be a fitting remedy to Haynesworth's tumultuous two seasons in Washington.
