Gilbride looking forward to using Vic Six, but will likely have to wait

Earlier this week I wrote about Duke Calhoun and speculated that because of his special teams abilities – which is why he made the team – he would likely be on the field Sunday ahead of Victor Cruz. Guess I’m not the only one thinking that way. Kevin Gilbride seems to think it will be a while before he gets to use Cruz in the offense.
“The hard part is to get him on the field,” Gilbride said. “The way it’s structured here is that if you’re not one of the starting two receivers, then you’ve got to contribute in the other areas, so that’s where he’s got to earn his spurs and hopefully he’ll show enough someday that he’ll get that chance.”
Gilbride did say that it is “easy” to use Cruz, though, and that he has shown a good ability to run after the catch the way Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham have.
“He’ll be that same kind of guy, but again, the bottom line is that he’s a young guy, he’s got to prove himself as a receiver enough to become one of the starting two,” Gilbride said. “That hasn’t happened yet. Or he’s got to get himself onto the active roster on game day by doing enough on special teams.”
Bottom line: If you show up on Sunday just to see Victor Cruz play, you're likely to be very disappointed.
