Rolle wants Giants dogs taken off the leash
Antrel Rolle wants the Giants to play like dogs. And he wants the organization to take off the collar and leash.
That, at least, was the final part of his multi-layered interview on WFAN today in which he spoke about the Giants coming out flat against the Colts and his theories as to why that took place.
“I don’t feel like there was enough done at all taking place in that game, especially a game of that magnitude,” he said of the leadership … and not only among the players. “I definitely see things, little things here and there. And it’s not all with the players. It’s not all with the players. There are a lot of other things that go on behind closed doors that a lot people don’t know about. It’s not all about the players sometimes.
“Things have to change. If you want a winning team, if you want a team that has the competitive attitude and to have that dog mentality, sometimes you have to let that team be a dog. Everything can’t be controlled. And right now everything gets controlled within this organization. Everything is controlled.”
Rolle most pointedly called out the team’s travel decisions, citing too much downtime between their arrival in Indianapolis around 3 p.m. on Saturday and the start of the game at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday for the sluggish play.
“I was trying to get myself excited, I was trying to get myself pumped, and honestly, in my opinion, I just think that there was too much laying around before the game,” he said. “The day before the game, the day of the game, I felt we had too much down time doing nothing, just relaxing. And I felt like it carried over to the game.
“Of course you’re supposed to relax before the game. We got to Indy 3 o’clock Saturday so we had that entire day of doing nothing … Then we had the next day of sitting around not doing much. Then we got to the stadium 3 hours and 15 minutes before the game started. We’re sitting around the locker room not doing anything. Honestly I don’t know what to do in a situation like that because I’ve never been in a situation like that. I’m just sitting around getting lacksidaisical. And I’m pretty sure a lot of players felt the same way because you can’t tell me that the football Giants play that kind of football. Because honestly I’ve seen differently and everyone else has seen differently …
“To get to the stadium three hours and 15 minutes before a game, I’ve never done that. I’ve never heard of that.”
