The lesson: Don't ever cut your hair
It was such a charming story when Duke Calhoun made the 53-man roster and cut off his dread locks because he said he would when he got a job. But there was another guy who did the same thing, his roommate, Seth Williams.
Williams was signed to the practice squad over the weekend, and to celebrate he too had his dreads chopped off. Now? Well, he doesn’t have his hair and he doesn’t have a job either.
Williams and Sha’reff Rashad were both cut from the practice squad. They had their contracts “terminated,” in the terms of the league, but that sounds very harsh, so we’ll just say they were cut.
Replacing them on the practice squad are Brandon Hughes and Brian Jackson. Both are defensive backs, replacing the two “terminated” defensive backs. Jackson was recently cut by the Jets. You might have seen his role as the waterboarded rookie in this season’s “Hard Knocks.”
Speaking of practice squad, I thought it was very interesting to see how much attention tight ends coach Michael Pope was spending on Jake Ballard and Bear Pascoe. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Giants employ one of those “up-down” moves Tom Coughlin mentioned earlier in the week and bounced Pascoe up for a game in the very near future.
