Giants defensive captain Justin Tuck wore a fire helmet symbolic of his leadership during their first game. But will he or someone else step up to stop the negativity after the Giants' loss to the Colts? (Sept. 21, 2010) Credit: David Pokress

In trying to fix one problem, the Giants may have exposed another.

"Leadership" has been the word of the week for the Giants, and today Tom Coughlin met with the captains -- Justin Tuck, Eli Manning and Chase Blackburn -- for about 10 minutes or so after practice on the field. Why there?

Lack of communication!

"I thought I was having my meeting inside but I turned around and they were standing there," Coughlin said. "So I had my meeting right there ... We were going to go inside, but I guess it is too mice of a day."

The Giants are so flustered they can't even get where they want their leaders to meet right!

I'm kidding, of course. But the question of leadership is really no joke for the Giants. Antrel Rolle brought it to the forefront on Tuesday and today it trickled right into a puddle of questions gathering in front of Tuck's locker.

Rolle didn't mention Tuck by name, but let's be honest here. When he's talking about leadership on the defense, he's talking about Tuck. He's the captain.

"The only thing I was upset about was he didn’t come to me first, and we’re a team," Tuck said. "So we’ll talk. We haven’t talked. We will talk, and I’ll figure out what exactly he meant by what he did. If he’s got a problem with how I lead, that’s fine. That’s his opinion. I mean, none of us are perfect. I’m not going to sit here and tell you I’m the best leader. When I make a mistake, I own up to it. And obviously against the Colts, we didn’t do a good job in leadership because the score reflected that."

Glauber will have more from his conversations with Tuck and others in the locker room a little later.
