FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Matt Slauson is familiar with the way Ndamukong Suh operates on the field. The two were teammates for four seasons at Nebraska and frequently squared off against each other in practice.

So the Jets' left guard didn't seem the least bit surprised about the ill-advised move that got the second-year defensive tackle ejected in the third quarter of the Lions' loss to the Packers in Detroit on Thanksgiving.

"All I'm going to say is somebody needs to get him under control," Slauson told Newsday on Friday. "I mean, somebody needs to make him realize the stuff he's doing is unacceptable. It's unsafe."

With the Packers on third-and-goal from the Lions' 3-yard line, Suh got into a skirmish with Green Bay lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith. Suh appeared to slam Dietrich-Smith's head into the turf three times before getting up and stomping on Dietrich-Smith's right arm.

Suh was thrown out of the game and didn't take much responsibility for his actions after the game. He faces a possible suspension.

Suh has a league-high nine personal fouls since he entered the league last season. Slauson hinted that he witnessed some dirty play from Suh when both suited up for the Cornhuskers.

"Obviously, not to this extent," said Slauson, who was drafted by the Jets in 2009. "But you could see some of that."

Jets coach Rex Ryan offered some levity about the incident, saying: "I'll be honest with you, I think the young man, he should be released and come to the Jets . . . We'll sacrifice that way."

About the amount of Suh's fine, "That one better be more than $75,000," Ryan quipped, a reference to the fine the NFL levied against him Monday for his foul-mouthed comment toward a fan at halftime of the Jets' Nov. 13 loss to the Patriots.

Coaches extended

Brian Schottenheimer's contract doesn't expire anytime soon. Neither does Mike Pettine's. During the offseason, the Jets extended the deals of their offensive and defensive coordinators through at least the 2012 campaign. When the contracts expire is unclear.

There's a couple of real good teams in there. Obviously, Baltimore and Pittsburgh, but beyond that, I'll take our division over any of them."
