FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Rex Ryan has a message for Jets fans attending Sunday's game with the Texans: Arrive in your seats early and make enough noise to be heard in nearby Newark.

"Last time we played Houston, they had a White Out, everybody wearing white," Ryan said Wednesday, recalling the 2009 season opener in Reliant Stadium. "I'm not calling for anything like that. I'm just calling for Loud Out. Let's be loud and proud and get after these guys."

Bothered by the team's 2-2 record at New Meadowlands Stadium as opposed to its 5-0 mark on the road, Ryan wants fans to finish up the pregame schmoozing long before kickoff and help establish a sense of home-field advantage from the jump.

"I kind of figured it out," Ryan said. "The last [home] game, the tailgating, I understand, was exceptional. I'm asking our fans that we start our tailgate a little earlier and by the time introductions come out that we've got a butt in every seat. I think it's going to show the commitment that we have to each other, the team, the fans, that we're in there for introductions.

"Let them know we're there."

Schaub hurting

Texans QB Matt Schaub spent Tuesday night and part of Wednesday hospitalized, getting treatment for a bursa sac injury in his knee. But Houston coach Gary Kubiak still seemed confident Schaub, who didn't practice Wednesday, will start.

"I expect him to be here tomorrow," Kubiak told Houston reporters. "Everything should be OK. We put him in the hospital to treat it, basically, and get some rest and get off of it."

Extra points

WR Jerricho Cotchery (groin tear) was one of seven players who didn't practice, but Ryan still refuses to rule him out, saying it will be a wait-and-see . . . S Eric Smith (ankle) and LG Matt Slauson (quad/knee) also didn't practice, but each expects to play Sunday. Slauson should practice Thursday.
