Seau told police he fell asleep before car accident
Police say former NFL star linebacker Junior Seau, 41, told investigators he fell asleep before driving off a seaside cliff in the San Diego area.
Carlsbad (Calif.) police told the Los Angeles Times in a statement last night that "it is believed that Seau fell asleep at the wheel." Police Lt. Kelly Cain tells the North County Times newspaper that the lack of skid marks leading up to where Seau plunged off the cliff in his Cadillac SUV was consistent with the idea that he fell asleep.
Police said there's no sign that alcohol or drugs were involved.
Seau drove off the cliff early Monday, hours after he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence. He was sent to a hospital with minor injuries.
Seau's 25-year-old, live-in girlfriend told authorities that Seau assaulted her during an argument at his Oceanside home, according to police. She appeared to have minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.
Titans roll over JaguarsTennessee's Vince Young watched from the sideline. Jacksonville's David Garrard was in the locker room. Both starting quarterbacks were knocked out of last night's game, turning things over to veteran Kerry Collins and recently signed Trent Edwards.
The backups performed as expected, with Collins leading the Titans to a 30-3 victory and Edwards looking mostly like a guy who joined the team three weeks ago. Collins completed 11 of 16 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown, directed five consecutive scoring drives and put the visiting Titans (4-2) atop the AFC South. Tennessee also got 111 yards rushing and a late score from Chris Johnson. The Jaguars are 3-3.
Panthers sit QB Clausen
The Carolina Panthers (0-5) benched struggling rookie Jimmy Clausen to make way for a quarterback with eight turnovers and a 33.3 passer rating. Only Matt Moore is hoping a nostalgic video session will help him regain his 2009 form and end Carolina's nightmare start to the season. Clausen, a second-round pick from Notre Dame, has completed just 47 percent of his passes with one touchdown and three interceptions. Clausen has also fumbled seven times, losing two, and holds a 52.2 passer rating. The Panthers have five touchdowns and 16 turnovers.
