Golf is having its struggles, just like any other business. But, according to the PGA of America, the economy of New York State would be suffering even more if not for golf.

In a report to be issued to state officials Wednesday, Joe Steranka, head of the PGA of America, will report that golf is responsible for 56,000 jobs and $1.6 billion in wage income. The golf industry has a total economic impact of $5.3 billion annually in the state, the report says.

More info when the report comes out. But it does suggest that, even though some courses are closing or are endangered, golf is here to stay--or at least it ought to be.
