Schools canceled athletic events across the board after a storm dumped anywhere from nine to 17 inches of snow on Long Island Tuesday night and yesterday morning.

"To my knowledge, everything is canceled," Suffolk executive director of athletics Ed Cinelli said. "The rule of thumb is if you're closed, you're closed. We're looking at the possibility of rescheduling, which will be a task for all of us."

In addition to dozens of postponed wrestling matches, officials moved the Millrose Game Time Trials at the Armory to Thursday. Additionally, the boys and girls bowling Suffolk singles and doubles tournament were postponed to Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. at East Islip Lanes for girls and Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. at Sayville Lanes for boys, said boys bowling coaches' association president Rick Papandrea. Rescheduling for other athletic events, such as gymnastics and swimming, will be on a school-to-school basis, Cinelli said.

"It's just been a challenge," Cinelli said. "We're probably midway through the winter season now and already we've had to reschedule a good number of events with a hope that the weather cooperates for the rest of the winter."
