Boyd's three gives Hempstead boys win
Mical Boyd's deep, straightaway three-pointer with five seconds left lifted Hempstead over Uniondale, 49-48, Friday in Nassau Conference AA-I boys basketball.
Boyd's three-pointer with 5:07 remaining put the Tigers up 44-43, and a layup with 3:06 remaining gave them a 46-45 lead. Boyd had 24 points and 12 rebounds, and Ismael Pierre added six points and four assists for the Tigers (7-4). Shaquille Mosley and Roderick Epps each scored 14 for Uniondale.
Wyandanch 68, Center Moriches 64: Jared Creekmore hit three-pointers on three consecutive possessions in a 25-18 fourth quarter for Wyandanch (5-5) in Suffolk League VII. The senior had a career-high 21 points, and Alexander Williams added 16 points and 15 rebounds. Miles Bell scored 21 points for Center Moriches.
St. John the Baptist 76, St. Anthony's 68: Will Fortune had 28 points and five assists to lead St. John the Baptist (4-4), which rallied from a 21-point deficit in the second quarter in CHSAA. Derelle Hunter added 18 points and three steals and Dante Thompson-Smallwood had eight points and 15 rebounds. James McKenna scored 21 points for St. Anthony's.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Bay Shore 45, West Islip 42: Elissa Lagara (12 points, five assists) hit free throws with 22.9 seconds left to give Bay Shore a 45-39 lead in League II. Megan Schoberl's steal with 25 seconds left set up the foul shots. Courtney Bocchieri added nine points and 11 rebounds.
Great Neck North 46, West Hempstead 40: Jennifer Doppelt had 16 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, five blocks and three steals for Great Neck North (5-7) in Conference A-III. Jackie Behar added 13 points and 10 rebounds and Talia Etessami had three points and six rebounds.
