Basketball roundup: Sachem East's Katie Doherty scores 1,000th point

Sachem East senior Katie Doherty scored 18 points, including the 1,000th of her career, in a 72-42 win over Floyd in a Suffolk League I girls basketball game Monday.

The 5-11 guard, bound for Holy Cross, has exactly 1,000 points and scored the last on a free throw in the third quarter. Kathleen Everson added 21 points and Gabby Aspuru and Danielle Cosgrove each chipped in six points for Sachem East (3-0).

Centereach 53, Smithtown West 52: Freshman Cassidy Treanor hit a baseline jumper with five seconds left to win it for Centereach (2-2) in League III. Courtney Buoncore (12 points, four rebounds) had a steal at halfcourt as time expired to seal it. Jackie Buzaid had 21 points, six assists and nine rebounds and Lauren Meigel had 10 rebounds in the win.

West Babylon 59, East Islip 54: Sam Apuzzo had 14 points and seven steals and Shannon McGuire added 16 points, including four three-pointers, to lead West Babylon (3-2) in League IV.

Hampton Bays 67, Mattituck 56: Alexis Fotopoulos had a game-high 31 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and 10 steals to lead Hampton Bays (3-0) in League VII. Alex Maitland-Ward added a team-high 12 rebounds. Tiana Baker and Katie Hoeg each had 22 points to lead Mattituck (1-2).St. John the Baptist 57, Holy Trinity 49: Kayla Hill had 13 points and eight rebounds to lead St. John the Baptist (1-1) in a CHSAA game. Bridgette Moran had 12 rebounds and five blocks and Kaitlyn Montalbano and Gianna Locker each chipped in five assists in the win.

BOYS BASKETBALLWard Melville 47, Patchogue-Medford 46: Troy Raney hit a three-pointer with two seconds remaining in overtime for Ward Melville (4-0) in League I. Gabe Brown had 18 points, 15 rebounds and eight blocks in the win. Patchogue-Medford's James Conklin scored seven of his 15 points during a 15-6 fourth quarter to help force overtime.

Central Islip 39, Connetquot 38: Malcolm Pridgeon had eight rebounds and three blocks and hit a free throw with 11 seconds left to get the final margin in a League II win for Central Islip (4-0). Donovan Slater hit a three with 1:50 left to give Central Islip a 35-30 lead. David McKenzie had a team-high 12 points and four assists for Central Islip.Bellport 57, Hauppauge 55: Mike D'Amadeo had 15 points, including a three-pointer with 30 seconds left for Bellport (3-1) in League IV. Brandon Laing scored nine of his 15 in the fourth quarter, and Ray Wardell had 18 points in the win. Wyandanch 69, Mercy 59: Junior Kamar Harris had a career-high 17 points, including three consecutive three-pointers during a 24-13 third quarter for Wyandanch (2-2) in League VII. Tyler Hejard had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Mercy's Nykel Reese had 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Pierson 57, Shelter Island 48: Forrest Loesch (21 points) hit two three-pointers in the last two minutes to give Pierson (4-1) a six-point lead in League VIII. Ian Barrett added 19 points in the win.
