Brown helps Freeport clinch Conference AA-I
Jere Brown had 15 points, including the go-ahead layup with 24 seconds left to lift Freeport to a 43-42 win over Uniondale Tuesday night in Nassau Conference AA-I boys basketball.
Justin Staton added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Red Devils (9-2), who clinched the conference title. Shaquille Mosley led Uniondale (7-3) with 16 points.
Massapequa 52, Oceanside 50: Ryan Van Buren had 24 points and Ian Walsh added eight points as Massapequa (11-5) held off a late 12-3 run by Oceanside in Conference AA-I.
Calhoun 48, Great Neck South 40: Chad Fuschillo had eight of his 13 points in a 18-8 fourth quarter, including a layup with three minutes remaining to put Calhoun (9-3) up for good in Conference AA-III.
Floyd 59, Commack 51: Anthony White had seven of his 17 points during an 11-0 run for Floyd (10-2, Suffolk League I) in the final 2:30. With Floyd behind 51-48, Ray Ducoing scored a layup on a feed from Shabazz Thompkins (17 points) to start the run.
Patchogue-Medford 59, Ward Melville 51: Matt Vogel (20 points) hit five of his six three-pointers during a 23-13 fourth quarter to lead PM (1-11) in League I. Ahmad Williams had 23 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Connetquot 62, Sachem North 59: Jake Melendez made a pair of free throws with 50 seconds left to give Connetquot (6-6) a 60-59 lead in League II. Casey Baker had 15 points, Greg Silvestro had 13 points and Antwan Pevy added 12 for Connetquot.
West Islip 62, Hills East 59: Senior James Tucci had a career-high 31 points, Chris Anderson had 13 points and Kyle Turri scored 12 for West Islip (5-7) in League II.
Amityville 68, Glenn 48: Darien Croft had 21 points and Dejuhan Grey had 10 rebounds as Amityville (10-0) clinched at least a share of the League VI title. It's the 17th time in 20 years that Amityville has won or shared a league title.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Lindenhurst 44, Brentwood 38: Colleen Ames finished with 15 points, including a three-pointer with 1:30 left to put Lindenhurst (11-1) ahead 42-38 in League I. Shannon Crehan had 15 points and Stephanie Ingeniot hit a layup to make it 39-36 with 2:30 left.
Comsewogue 34, Hauppauge 33: Sam Kane had 17 points, including a layup off an inbounds feed from Kerry McKinnon as time expired to win it for Comsewogue (6-5 League IV), which clinched a playoff berth. Michelle Rubino hit a layup with 40 seconds left to cut the lead to 33-32 for Comsewogue.
Islip 50, Rocky Point 43: Freshman Vanessa Juengerkes had 12 points and a career-high 21 rebounds and eighth-grader Alyssa Murphy added 12 points and a career-high six assists for Islip (5-5) in League V. Seventh-grader Italee Brown hit two three-pointers during a 14-8 second quarter that gave Islip a 28-18 halftime lead.
Glen Cove 58, Valley Stream South 53: Taylah Hudson had 14 points, Heather Artinian had 12 points and Nicole Alexander had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Glen Cove (5-5) in Nassau Conference A-III.North Shore 56,
Floral Park 47: Jackie Gioia and Nicole Scuderi each had nine points, including back-to-back threes with 3:00 left to give North Shore (9-0) a 53-43 lead in Conference A-III. Amanda Johansen led North Shore with 14 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
BOYS TRACK
Hills West Wins Small Schools. Dan McCord won the 300 meters in 36.43 seconds and was part of the winning 4 x 200 relay has Half Hollow Hills West captured the Suffolk Small Schools championship at Suffolk CC-Brentwood on Monday.
The Colts' 4 x 400 team of Kyle Sammis, Justin Connor, Frederic Fils Aime and Alex Gordon won in 3:38.59, while the 4 x 200 team of McCord, Abdias Myrtil, Jarried Redwood and Jahmal Sampson won in 1:37.13.
Other winners were Eastport-South Manor's Ben Tuttle in the 3,200 (9:47.44), Port Jefferson's Andrew Keresztes in the 1,000 (2:36.96), Shoreham-Wading River's Kevin Sanders in the 600 (1:24.59) and Huntington's Tyriek Johnson in the 55 hurdles (7.63).
SWR's Eric Anderson won the high jump (6-1), Rocky Point's Kevin Vasko the long jump (22-3 1/2) and Brandon Reynolds (Kings Park) the shot put (53-6 1/4).
