Perillo, Peavy lead Connetquot basketball
Michael Perillo hit a three-pointer with two minutes left to give Connetquot a two-point lead in its 55-51 victory over Bay Shore Saturday in Suffolk League II boys basketball. Antwan Peavy followed with a steal and hit two free throws with four seconds left to seal it for Connetquot (4-6). Devin Farmer scored 14 points for Bay Shore (6-5).
Sachem East 62, Commack 54: Dan Candemeres scored 11 of his 24 points in a 19-15 fourth quarter to lead Sachem East (8-3) and help hold off a surging Commack in a League I game. John Stathis had 16 points for Commack.
Division 69, Garden City 63: Ryan Birmingham hit four three pointers and finished the game with 19 points, Matt Negelberg had 17 points and J.J. Kissane added 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead Division (2-7) in Nassau Conference A-I. Colby Lapp also had 16 points for Division. Griffin Eilbech scored 17 points for Garden City (5-4).
Long Island Lutheran 93, Albany Academy 67: Mike Florin hit two three pointers and Shaun Lawton had eight points in a 28-16 third quarter that broke the game open and led Long Island Lutheran (14-3) to the non-conference win. Lawton finished the game with 21 points and nine assists, Achraf Yacoubou scored 24 points and had 19 rebounds and Jordan Allen had 17 points and 15 rebounds. Damien White scored 18 points for Albany Academy.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Glen Cove 50, Floral Park 45: Nicole Alexander scored 10 points and added 14 rebounds, six blocked shots and four assists to lead Glen Cove (4-5) in Conference III. Mckayla Hernandez had 15 points and Marcella Applewhaite added seven of her nine points in the fourth quarter, including three free throws in the final minute. Kaela Hilaire led Floral Park (7-2) with 13 points.
Carle Place 52, Friends Academy 46: Samantha Burden recorded a triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals and Dana McLaughlin scored seven of her 15 points during a 17-7 fourth quarter for Carle Place (10-1) to lead them to the comeback win in Conference BC. The Frogs trailed by four going into the final frame. Reoni Mapp scored 24 points for Friends Academy.
Commack 52, Longwood 49: Colleen Walker scored 10 of her team-high 18 points in a 14-18 fourth quarter and had 12 rebounds to lead Commack (5-6) in League I. Melissa Lobacarro added 16 points and 14 rebounds. Aliyah Blake scored 18 points for Longwood (1-10).Connetquot 53, Bay Shore 45: Junior Catalina Vasquez had a career-high 30 points and 18 rebounds to lead Connetquot (7-3) in League II. The Thunderbirds clinched their first playoff berth in eight years. Bay Shore is 2-9.
Long Island Lutheran 58, St. Mary Bayview Academy (R.I.) 39: Christina Raiti had 14 points and Sam Milhaven had nine points and eight rebounds for Long Island Lutheran (13-4) in non-league.
