Petrucelli lifts Hicksville over Calhoun
Nick Petrucelli hit a three-pointer from the right wing at the buzzer to lift Hicksville over Calhoun, 43-42, Friday in Conference AA-II boys basketball.
Petrucelli (seven points) received a pass from Pablo Segura and sank the shot, despite being tightly guarded with a hand in his face. Kyle McGinley's three-pointer had given Calhoun a 42-40 lead with 7.2 seconds left.
T.J. Danns led Hicksville with 18 points, and Tommy Murphy scored 14 for Calhoun.
Jericho 57, Wantagh 55: Garrett Johnson hit a baseline jumper with four seconds left to win it for Jericho (3-0) in A-I. Johnson had 24 points and five rebounds.
Mineola 64, Seaford 59: Senior Thomas Breslin had a career-high 21 points for Mineola (4-1) in A-IV.
Manhasset 67, West Hempstead 57: Senior Alessandro Troia had a career-high 34 points to lead Manhasset (3-2) in A-III. Danny Merola added eight points and nine assists.
Hempstead 60, Oceanside 49: Tidell Pierre had 17 points and 20 rebounds for Hempstead (5-4) in AA-I.
Plainview JFK 77, Valley Stream Central 65: Alec Abramowitz had 22 points and 11 rebounds for Plainview JFK (3-3) in AA-II.
Lawrence Woodmere Academy 83, Evangel Christian 69: Rokas Lapsys had 31 points and 11 rebounds to lead LWA (5-0) in PSAA. Trent Parrish had 20 points and eight steals.
Portledge 52, St. Demetrios 41: Nick Lobley had 15 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals to lead Portledge (9-1) in non-league. Terence Simpson added 14 points and 11 rebounds.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Clarke 32, Roosevelt 29:Alyssa Colletti had 13 points, including a layup with 1:55 remaining to give Clarke (1-4) a 30-25 lead in A-IV. Danielle Ferrara added eight points and 10 rebounds.
Great Neck North 56, Floral Park 47:Jenn Doppelt had 17 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals, and hit six fourth-quarter free throws for Great Neck North (4-1) in A-III. Marnie Rosenwasser's three-pointer gave the Blazers a five-point lead with three minutes left.
Wantagh 72, Jericho 59: Demi Valenti scored 13 of her 18 points in a 23-13 fourth quarter for Wantagh (3-0) in A-I. Valenti shot 8-for-10 from the field and had five rebounds.
Carey 58, Bellmore JFK 32: Freshman Victoria Porcasi scored a career-high 28 points and had nine assists and five steals to lead Carey (3-3) in AA-III. Senior Caitlin Barrett added eight points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
Holy Trinity 47, St. John the Baptist 36: Katie Poppe had 19 points and six rebounds to lead Trinity (4-1) in CHSAA. Mikaela Ryan added eight points and 11 rebounds.
Portledge 64, Upper Room 37:Tamara Simpson scored 23 of her 27 points in the first half to lead Portledge (9-0) in IPPSAL. Kristie Kelly had nine points, eight assists, five rebounds and five steals. Sydney Zambrotto scored 35 points for Upper Room.
GYMNASTICS
Bethpage 150.15, Hicksville 140.7: Alexis Fraher won the all-around with a 33.6 and Alexa Pepe took first on the balance beam (8.9) to lead Bethpage (7-0). Bethpage's Alyssa Testa and Hicksville's Lauren Cecco tied for first on vault (8.15).
BOYS SWIMMING
Ward Melville 97, Smithtown 91: Jon Yin won the 50-yard freestyle (22.75) and the 100 breaststroke (1:00.29) to lead WM (5-0).
BOYS FENCING
Hewlett 14, Garden City 13:Zach Sider, who went 2-1, won his final epee bout to clinch the win for Hewlett (2-7). Jason Krueger was 3-0 in foil.
WRESTLING
Huntington 40, Harborfields 39: Anthony Puca won by pin in 3:00 at 285 pounds to lift Huntington (1-3) in League V.
Plainview JFK 39, Valley Stream Central 32: David Kim won by pin in 5:38 at 170 pounds for Plainview JFK (1-3) in Conference I.
Island Trees 34, Clarke 30: Tommy Sinclair defeated Endy Nunez in a 5-0 decision in the 220-pound match as Island Trees (4-0) clinched its second straight Conference B-IV title.
Mepham 54, Westbury 30: Josh Ferris earned a 13-0 major decision at 113 to lead Mepham (2-2) in Conference B-II.
