Roundup: Branco wins it for North Babylon boys
Fola Branco scored on a layup at the buzzer to give North Babylon a 71-69 win over Lindenhurst Friday in non-league boys basketball. Cortland Speight scored 23 points and Branco had 15 points for the Bulldogs, which outscored Lindenhurst 26-12 in the fourth quarter. Isiah Moore had 13 points and Melshawn McPherson added 11 for North Babylon.
Hewlett 61, West Hempstead 60: Weldon Irvine scored on a layup with 5.3 seconds left as Hewlett erased an eight-point fourth quarter deficit in non-league. Avery Feldman led Hewlett with 22 points, 13 rebounds and five assists and Irvine added 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Hauppauge 54, Newfield 53: Tyler Goldstein had two key baskets in overtime and scored 18 points to lead Hauppauge in non-league.
Commack 63, Northport 39: Nick Arnold had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead Commack in non-league.
Hempstead 75, Port Chester 26: Junior Tidell Pierre had career-highs in points (25) and rebounds (22) to lead Hempstead in the first round of the Nyack Tip-Off Tournament. Hempstead will play the winner of Ramapo-Nyack in the finals at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Kellenberg 84, St. John's Prep 53: Bryan Gellineau had 18 points (9-for-10 from the field) and 14 rebounds and Jeremy Arthur had 24 points for Kellenberg in the first round of the Brother Arnold Tournament. Kellenberg plays St. John the Baptist Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in the final.
St. John the Baptist 77, Blessed Sacrament 51: Vinny Abbondola had 14 points to lead SJB in the first round of the Brother Arnold Tournament.
Half Hollow Hills West 57, East Islip 51: Emile Blackman had 13 points and eight rebounds and junior Neneyo Mate-Kole had a career-high seven blocks to lead Hills West in the finals of the East Islip Holiday Tournament. Longwood 68, Islip 38: Chris Millender had 17 points, six rebounds and four steals for Longwood in the consolation game of the East Islip Holiday Tournament.
MacArthur 55, Island Trees 38: Kevin Roach had 20 points and 15 rebounds for MacArthur in championship of the Jeff Shaw Memorial Tournament.
Plainedge 56, Division 54: Nick Cupolo had 20 points and seven steals to help Plainedge fight off a late 24-9 Division run in the fourth quarter to win the consolation game at the Jeff Shaw Memorial Tournament.
Mount Sinai 61, Southold 52: Greg Kopcienski had 15 of his 23 points in the second half to lead Mt. Sinai in the consolation game of the Southold Invitational Tournament. Mike Guzzardi had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Smithtown West 59, Glenn 51: Ryan Hickey had 21 points and six assists to lead Smithtown West in non-league. Anton Swan's 26 points led Glenn.
Herricks 70, Sewanhaka 51: Andrew Fellus had 25 points and George Malonoukos added 14 points and 21 rebounds to lead Herricks in the consolation game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
Ward Melville 55, Stony Brook 38: John Edmonds had 19 points and 17 rebounds to lead Ward Melville in non-league.
