Roundup: Dhaliwal's three clutch for Farmingdale
Navreet Dhaliwal made his only basket of the game, a three-pointer with 20 seconds left Tuesday to lift Farmingdale to a 67-66 win over Hempstead in its Nassau Conference AA-I boys basketball opener. Dalique Mingo had 20 points, eight assists and six steals, and Kevin Petit-Ferer added 15 points for the Dalers. Malike Harris scored 17 points for Hempstead.
Baldwin 85, East Meadow 53: Senior Kyle Richardson had 19 points and a career-high 15 rebounds and senior Mykeil Tzul had a career-high 19 points with eight assists and eight steals to lead Baldwin in Conference AA-II.
MacArthur 46, Plainview JFK 44: Will Cheshire (15 points) hit the winning layup with 1:27 left to lead MacArthur in Conference AA-II. Kevin Roach added seven points and 10 rebounds for MacArthur.
Mepham 60, Westbury 57: Kris Waldron scored on a putback with one minute left in the game to put Mepham ahead 60-55 in Conference AA-III. Waldron had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Ward Melville 45, Sachem East 42: John Edmonds (11 points, 11 rebounds) hit three free throws in the final 1:35 to lift Ward Melville in Suffolk League I. Shane Deneen tied the score at 40 for the Patriots on a goaltending call with 1:35 left.
Lindenhurst 47, Whitman 45: Brandon Hauser (12 points) hit a three-pointer to put Lindenhurst ahead 46-37 with one minute left in League II. Stew Warren had 20 points in the win.
Central Islip 51, Connetquot 50: Brandon Hornedo had 11 points, including two with 1:20 left to give Central Islip a 51-48 lead in League II. Connetquot's Casey Baker's potential winning shot was waived after being released after time had expired.
North Babylon 48, Smithtown East 44: Clesean Wilson had 10 points, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 1:33 left, to lift North Babylon in its League III opener.
Smithtown West 77, Riverhead 67: Eric Joseph had 26 points and 14 rebounds to lead Smithtown West in League III. Smithtown West hit 17 of 18 free throws during a 28-21 fourth quarter to seal the win.
Sayville 60, Kings Park 57: Rich Geiger hit a jumper with 15 seconds left in overtime to give Sayville a 57-55 lead in League V. James Giattino hit two foul shots with five seconds left to provide the final margin.
Mount Sinai 61, Bayport-Blue Point 59: Alex Pintabona went 5-for-5 from the foul line in the game's final two minutes to help Mount Sinai hold on in League VI. Pintabona had 16 points and Mike Guzzardi 18 points and 15 rebounds in the win.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Massapequa 47, Uniondale 31: Morgan Roessler had 14 points, five assists, three blocks and six steals to lead Massapequa in Conference AA-I.
Jericho 57, Hewlett 56: Colleen McCormack hit a driving layup with three seconds left to win it for Jericho in non-league. Amanda Levenberg had 19 points for Jericho and Hewlett's Sam DiSalvo had 28.
Floral Park 50, Mineola 27: Freshman Lorraine Hickman scored 19 of her career-high 21 points in the first half and added 12 rebounds for Floral Park in non-league. Valerie Fox had 12 points and Jackie Hilaire had 10 assists in the win.
Longwood 37, Patchogue-Medford 35: Kiery West (12 points, 11 rebounds) hit a free throw with six seconds left to give Longwood a 37-33 lead in League I. Sade Holmes added nine points and four steals.
Lindenhurst 59, Whitman 42: Colleen Ames had 20 points, including six three-pointers, to lift Lindenhurst in League II. Shannon Crehan had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Valerie Oyakhilome 15 points in the win.
Connetquot 44, Central Islip 28: Jessica Cordano scored eight of her 18 points during a 16-3 first quarter for Connetquot in League II. Catalina Vasquez had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Connetquot.
Mount Sinai 38, Bayport-Blue Point 21: Megan Presser scored seven of her 13 points and Danielle Diaz hit both of her three-pointers during a 19-3 second quarter for Mount Sinai in League IV.
