Simpson leads Portledge boys basketball
Terence Simpson scored 18 of his 27 points in the first half for Portledge in a 51-37 win over Waldorf in its IPPSAL boys basketball opener Wednesday.
Zach Pilson added eight points and three steals and Nick Lobley hit two three-pointers and had eight points for Portledge, which led 33-12 at the half.
Solomon Schechter 50, Knox 35: Jacob Katz scored 21 points for Solomon Schechter in its IPPSAL opener.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
St. John the Baptist 47, Sacred Heart 31: Anastasia Williams had 16 points and eight rebounds and senior Brianna Thomas had 13 points and a career-high 15 rebounds to lead St. John the Baptist (1-0) to a 47-31 win in CHSAA. Lauren Williams added 10 points, four steals and four assists.
