St. Mary's boys basketball team is on its way to the state CHSAA Class A final against Mount St. Michael after it beat Canisius High School, 71-58, Sunday in Buffalo.

Chavaughn Lewis scored a game-high 24 points with nine rebounds, four steals and two blocks for St. Mary's.

Dante Agnew had 15 points and eight assists and Charles McCann added 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks for the Gaels, who led 35-26 at halftime.

St. Mary's (27-0) advanced to the championship game for the first time since 2004, when the Gaels were trying to repeat as champions after capturing the 2003 state CHSAA title. They made it to the semifinals last season but lost.

The championship game will be played Saturday at 2:30 at Fordham University.
