Rielly racks up 506 yards as Glenn routs Mt Sinai

It was supposed to be a matchup of one of Suffolk's best defenses against one of Suffolk's most debilitating offensive weapons. Mt. Sinai, which had allowed only 32 points all season, against Glenn, the team with the sure-handed QB and the perfect record in Division IV.
That was the story going in. The story coming out of the first half Saturday could be summed up in two easy words: Ryan Rielly.
Rielly was equal parts explosive and fearless and had a hand in all seven of Glenn's touchdowns, as the Knights slammed Mt. Sinai, 52-28, in Elwood. He was 12-for-18, with four passing TDs on 376 yards and had 130 yards on 14 carries, with three touchdowns. His 506 yards of offense is a school record.
"He's a beast," said one member of the Huntington youth football league, gaping on the sideline as Rielly hit Nick Wagner on a 47-yard scoring pass with 10:20 left in second quarter to make it 28-7. "He's got four touchdowns already," intoned another.
It was that sort of afternoon for Rielly, and, though reluctant to boast, he knew it.
"It was like being in the schoolyard," Rielly said. "I could run if it was open. I could pass it. I was making plays."
In the first quarter, it really did look like child's play.
His 50-yard pass to Wagner on the curl was good for the Knight's first score a little more than three minutes into the game. Glenn (7-0) got the ball back one play later on Kevin Massa's interception to the Mt. Sinai 30-yard line. Six plays later Rielly scored on a quarterback keep around the right end - a five-yard run. Adding to his already impressive day, Rielly tacked on a 44-yard pass to Massa and an 82-yard pass play to Wagner with 3:19 left in the third.
That touchdown, coming on the first play after a kickoff return to the 18, showcased Rielly at his best. In trouble and with no immediately available receivers, Rielly scrambled out of the pocket and finally hit Wagner on the run.
"It was great," said Wagner, who finished with three TDs and four catches for 230 yards. "Breaking away from everyone feels amazing."
Josh Morales led Mt. Sinai (5-2) with two rushing TDs.
The Knight defense was anchored by Moses Johnson with 10 tackles. Massa had four catches for 92 yards.
Coach David Shanahan said that his boys were "enthused" to play Mt. Sinai, who were in second place coming into Saturday, realizing that they likely would see the Mustangs in the playoffs. He brought up nine members of the JV squad for practice and "it put some fire in everyone," he said.
Both Wagner and Rielly said the week was instrumental.
"We were just working hard, no messing around," Wagner said. "We knew this was a huge week for us and we just got it done."
Having Rielly, who leads all Suffolk QBs in passing, certainly makes things easier.
"We're very fortunate to have a great quarterback," Shanahan said. "His ability to run, pass, catch, throw was very apparent. He showed it today."
