Slane leads North Babylon past Deer Park

Ryan Slane ran for 113 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries to lead North Babylon (5-1) to a 20-6 win over Deer Park (4-2) Saturday in Suffolk Division II.
Slane scored on North Babylon's first drive of the second half on a 19-yard quarterback draw to break a 6-6 tie. After Deer Park failed to move the ball, Slane scored on another draw for a 28-yard touchdown, capping a four-play, 69-yard drive.
"Ryan Slane is a great leader and pretty much took the game in his hands in the second half," North Babylon coach Terry Manning said.
Bulldogs halfback Spencer Davidson had 132 yards on 18 rushes and Connor Slane added 43 yards and a touchdown as North Babylon totaled 307 yards on the ground.
Deer Park's lone score came in the first quarter after North Babylon fumbled on its 23-yard line. Three plays later, quarterback Austin Sweeting connected with Vinny Vitale over the middle on a 20-yard touchdown pass.
"I think we played very well defensively," Manning said. "We made a few adjustments in the second half to help us win the game."
North Babylon's defense held Deer Park to 16 yards in the second half.
Middle linebacker Basiru Jobe led North Babylon with eight tackles and three sacks. Connor Slane also had an interception to go with three tackles. Teammates Alex Lopez, Anthony Grassa, and Sal Laventi each had a sack.
