Nassau girls soccer breakdowns

CLASS AA
Defending state champion Massapequa is once again the favorite in Nassau. Leading goal scorer Rosie DiMartino (18 goals), a top-rated prospect in the class of 2013, returns along with junior midfielder Tori Maley and senior goalkeeper Emmalee Meyer. The Chiefs will have a revamped defense, but the eight-time defending county champs have the depth to offset any learning curves.
MacArthur returns its entire squad and will be strong on both sides of the ball. The Generals are led by senior forward Jill Muholland, whose 23 goals were second in the county, as well as senior midfielder Kelly Kempf and senior forward Amanda Cantos.
East Meadow is a young squad led by Amanda Ashe, a sophomore sweeper and Dalia Elbasti, a senior midfielder.
Mepham returns six starters, led by junior midfielders Ashley Appel and Kelsey Simpson and sophomore midfielder Emily Schmitt.
Carey will be led by Rutgers-bound defender Erica Sousa.
CLASS A
South Side looks to return to the top after losing in the county finals last season. The Cyclones have seven starters back including their leading goal scorer, sophomore forward Christina Klaum (14 goals), and senior defenders Sam Ford and Caitlin Wallace.
Garden City, the defending Class A state champion, will be a defensive-minded team, led by senior goalkeeper Christina Mangels. Senior midfielder Jessica Stein and senior striker Taylor Hennig will be the focal points on offense for the Trojans.
West Hempstead is led by senior forward Olivia Czavar, a fifth-year starter who led the county with 24 goals. The Rams have seven starters back, including senior sweeper Sasha Selim and senior midfielder Erin Guerrero.
Island Trees returns 10 starters, including senior forward Allison Merrill (10 goals), senior sweeper Bridget Vilbig and sophomore forward Kristen Breihof.
New Hyde Park is hoping to at least match the success of last season's county semifinal appearance. Junior midfielder Gabriella Tomasini and senior defender Savannah Campana lead the way.
Seaford will look to senior forward Lisa Robinson, senior midfielder Victoria Principe and junior midfielder Val Insardi for leadership.
Jericho will need contributions from new faces; 33 of 35 goals from last season were lost to graduation. Junior midfielders Colleen McCormack and Amanda Levenberg will carry the offense.
Division has six returning starters, including senior midfielders Krista Fitzpatrick and Maggie Carew and forward Susan Ballantyne.
Plainedge has a revamped roster after losing 16 seniors. Senior Kathleen Kennedy and sophomore Kristen James lead a young squad.
CLASS B
Cold Spring Harbor hopes to win its fifth straight county crown. The Seahawks have their leading scorer, sophomore Teressa Fazio (16 goals), and senior defender Chase Burke returning.
Carle Place has seven starters back, including senior forward Mellissa Duarte. The Frogs will battle lack of depth with a roster of just 14 players.
CLASS C
Friends Academy is led by junior midfielder Krystina Iordanou (13 goals).
