The Islanders have an offseason injury concern.

Top-line center Bo Horvat was replaced on Team Canada’s roster for the IIHF World Championship in Denmark and Sweden, Hockey Canada announced on Tuesday. The Islanders then announced Horvat had sustained a lower-body injury during the tournament and will return to Long Island to be examined by team doctors.

Horvat, who turned 30 last month, was replaced on Team Canada by highly-touted prospect Porter Martone, who may be among the top five selections in this June’s NHL Draft in Los Angeles.

Horvat had four goals and four assists in six games for Team Canada but was held out of the third period and overtime of Monday’s 2-1 shootout loss to Finland.

Horvat was participating in his second World Championship after Team Canada lost to Team USA in the bronze medal game in 2018.

Horvat said at the Islanders’ breakup day on April 19 that he considered playing for Team Canada in the World Championship a good “stepping stone” to show he belonged on the national roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

Horvat has been healthy since being acquired from the Canucks on Jan. 30, 2023, missing just one game apiece in the last two seasons.

Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson is also playing for Team Canada and had one goal and three assists in seven games.

The tournament’s championship game is on Sunday.
