Goalie Robin Lehner has a rough outing against Flyers

Goalie Robin Lehner’s second preseason start for the Islanders did not nearly go as well as his first.
Facing several odd-man rushes and battling traffic in his crease, Lehner allowed four goals on 22 shots in two periods in a 5-1 loss to the Flyers on Tuesday night at Barclays Center. Lehner, the former Sabres’ starter signed to a one-year, $1.5-million deal, made his Islanders debut by stopping all eight shots he faced in 29:29 of a 3-0 win over the Flyers on Sunday at Nassau Coliseum.
“It wasn’t a 5-1 game,” said Lehner, 27, who went 14-26-9 with a 3.01 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage behind the porous Sabres’ defense last season. “I felt good the first period and a half then we broke down a little bit.”
Lehner said he was working on adjusting his technique with director of goaltending Mitch Korn and goalie coach Piero Greco, including taking away some of the read-and-react in his game.
“He’s been pretty solid,” coach Barry Trotz said. “A couple of pucks got by him he’d probably like to have back. He’s not responsible for turnovers. At least two of the goals were very preventable by our decision making with the puck.”

Defenseman David Quenneville, 20, a seventh-round pick in 2016 who played three games for Bridgeport (AHL) last season, tied the game at 1-1 at 8:12 of the second period on a one-timer from the left circle off defenseman Nick Leddy’s pass…The Islanders killed off all three of the Flyers’ power plays…Right wing prospect Kieffer Bellows, 20, had a game-high seven shots…The Islanders are off on Wednesday and Trotz said he would not cut down his 68-man roster but would re-shuffle the personnel in his three groups to put more NHL players together. He added the team would start working on special teams more…Left wing Andrew Ladd (tightness) missed a third straight day of practice but coach Trotz said he does not have long-term concerns about the veteran just yet. “I don’t feel it’s anything major,” Trotz said.
