The Islanders on Wednesday night confirmed a report out of Sweden that defenseman Sebastian Aho, 26, had been arrested for exceeding that nation’s legal limit for blood alcohol content while operating a vehicle on Aug. 13.

“We were made aware immediately of the situation regarding Sebastian Aho,” Islanders president and general manager Lou Lamoriello said in a statement. “We have a copy of the police report indicating that he registered a 0.03 blood alcohol content, which is .01 over Sweden’s legal limit of .02. Sebastian apologizes for his mistake and as an organization we will work with him to make sure this never happens again.”

In comparison, the legal BAC limit in the U.S. is .08.

Aho, who agreed to a two-year, $1.65 million deal this offseason, indicated to a Swedish media outlet he had consumed alcohol the night before being arrested.
