Fans who filled Nassau Coliseum for the Islanders' NHL draft party Friday night cheered as the Islanders selected Griffin Reinhart with the fourth overall pick.

"Need to build that 'D' up and obviously you pick Reinhart, he's a big body, skilled guy, competes hard and I thought that was a good pickup for us," Islanders left wing Matt Moulson said. "You can never have too many great young defensemen."

Ryan Strome experienced what Reinhart is going through as the Islanders' first-round pick last year.

"You just got to come in and do his thing, not be too nervous, not try to do too much," Strome said. "He seems like a great player. I've watched him a few times and try to come keep it simple, do his thing and he'll be fine. [Reinhart's] a bigger guy, keeps the game pretty simple but has got a lot of skill. From guys that I've talked to, he seems like a real great player."

Islanders left wing Matt Martin said the players will have to do their part to help Reinhart adjust to the team and the expectations that come with being a top pick for the Islanders, who had a near record crowd of 9,247 at the Coliseum for the draft party, which offered tours of the locker room, carnival games and attractions and a Ferris wheel.

"For being a top-five pick, he's going to come in, he's going to be nervous and I think as players on the team and as an organization, we got to try and take some of that pressure off him," Martin said.

Early in the draft, the Islanders traded their 2013 second-round pick to Anaheim for veteran defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky, a move several of the current players approved.

Moulson played with Visnovsky, 35, when they were both members of the Los Angeles Kings in 2007-08.

"I thought it was a real good pickup for us. I had a chance to play with him a bit in L.A. and [he] is an extremely skilled defenseman, great on the power play, moves the puck well, skates well. He's a great guy," Moulson said. "It's a good pickup for us and it'll help with the offensive output from the back end . . . It's nice to get a guy who's got a couple of more years on us on our team."
