Not a good night for Evgeni Nabokov

Evgeni Nabokov had a rough night in Game 1, pulled after allowing four goals in 15 shots in a little more than a period.

It was even worse than that before all the Penguins carnage when Nabokov took Jarome Iginla's slap shot off his head. Nabokov stayed down on the ice for a few moments before getting to his skates and resuming play.

"I never had that before -- a chunk came out [of his mask], I think that mask is done," he said. "Good mask."

Jack Capuano said he pulled Nabokov to try and jump-start his lifeless team. "It wasn't anything Nabby did," the coach said. He wouldn't say whether Nabokov would go back in for Game 2, but that seems almost certain. Nabokov was pulled in only one of his 41 regular-season starts, also in this building in a 6-1 loss on March 10.

Reasoner is tossed

Marty Reasoner was a healthy scratch for the final 10 games of the regular season but got back into the lineup for Game 1 of the playoffs.

But then he got ejected for what was termed a kneeing major with 2:10 to play, despite replays that showed Reasoner's leg making contact with Jussi Jokinen's ankle, not either player's knee.

That was the only extracurricular activity in the final period with the game already well in hand for the Penguins.

Penguins coach Dan Bylsma gave no injury updates after the game. Jokinen didn't play the final 2:10 and James Neal did not return after a hard hit from Travis Hamonic just before Kris Letang's power-play goal at 1:19 of the second period.

D Brooks Orpik (lower body) was out for the Penguins along with Sidney Crosby (jaw).
