NEWARK -- With 14 forwards, more than coach John Tortorella prefers to carry, expect the Rangers to make some moves this week. The spares, Erik Christensen and Wojtek Wolski, are the candidates for a change. Christensen has returned from his two-week conditioning stint in the AHL and was scratched Tuesday night.

Wolski, however, appears to be the more vulnerable. He has missed 31 games with two separate injuries and is without a goal in the nine games he has dressed. The Rangers reportedly have been shopping Wolski with no takers. His approximate $1.8-million cap hit -- prorated with less than half the season to play -- is a stumbling block.

Noting that the Rangers have three days off after tonight's matchup with the Sabres, Tortorella said, "I'm sure there will be some discussions what we want to do.''

Lundqvist to start

Henrik Lundqvist is scheduled to start against the Sabres, his first start since earning his fifth shutout of the season in a 3-0 defeat of the Winnipeg Jets at the Garden on Jan. 24. Martin Biron faced the Sabres in Buffalo on Dec. 10, stopping 32 of 33 shots in a 4-1 victory.

Easy speech

The pregame talk by Devils coach Pete DeBoer apparently was brief. "You can't take anyone lightly," he said, "but obviously, the rivalry with the Rangers and where they're at, it definitely makes the motivating speech the coach has to use a lot shorter than on a normal night."
