Hofstra beats No. 1 Hopkins in OT
Freshman attack Jay Card scored with 1:51 remaining in the first overtime as Hofstra shocked top-ranked, defending national champion Johns Hopkins, 8-7, at Shuart Stadium. The win was Hofstra's first over a No. 1-ranked opponent in men's lacrosse. Card's game-high fourth tally came off a Hopkins turnover near midfield, which Pride junior attack Tom Dooley picked up and passed to junior midfielder Anthony Muscarella, who in turn sent it to Card standing alone to the right of the cage. Sophomore attack Dan Stein put the Pride ahead 7-6 with a goal at the 9:02 mark of the fourth quarter. Stephen Peyser sent the game into overtime with an unassisted goal, his second of the game, with 1:15 remaining in regulation, setting up Card's overtime heroics. Hofstra sophomore goalie Danny Orlando made 14 saves, and Michael Gvozden stopped 11 shots for Hopkins.
