88 was enough for UCLA
Kinda cool that the Garden will be the site Sunday of the UConn women’s basketball team’s attempt to tie the UCLA men’s Division I record of 88 consecutive victories.
(The opponent on ESPNU: Ohio State, featuring Commack’s own Samantha Prahalis.)
For me, though, the Huskies’ streak is bittersweet, what with the inevitable flashbacks to one of my great regrets as a sports fan:
With UCLA leading Notre Dame, 70-59, on Jan. 19, 1974, I figured it was safe to use the rest room at the old family estate in East Northport. When I walked out a few minutes later, it was 71-70 Irish.
End of 88-game streak. But a valuable lesson learned.
