The Mets and Nationals will premiere Apple TV+’s new series of live streaming doubleheaders on April 8, Major League Baseball announced on Tuesday.
Initially, the games will be free to anyone with an internet connection, even those who are not subscribers to Apple TV+. But there figures to be a learning curve for many fans who at least will be inconvenienced by the absence of the game from traditional broadcast or cable television.
Eventually the games are expected to be available only to subscribers, much like this season’s slate of exclusive NHL games on the ESPN+ streaming service.
Apple and MLB announced the first half of the “Friday Night Baseball” schedule, starting with Mets-Nationals in Washington and Astros-Angels from Anaheim, California. The Mets game is expected to feature the regular-season Mets debut of Max Scherzer.
Other Apple TV+ games involving local teams include Yankees at Royals on April 29, Tigers at Yankees on June 3 and Mets at Angels on June 10.
