Did beanings kill Lou Gehrig?

Tuesday night's HBO "Real Sports" includes a segment on new research indicating a connection between blows to the head and the development of Lou Gehrig's disease in elite athletes.

It's fascinating, potentially revolutionary stuff, and even suggests Gehrig himself might have developed the disease commonly associated with him because of several beanings during his career.
