Thursday marked the 60th anniversary of the first sports event televised in color, but it is unlikely you will guess the venue for CBS’ milestone telecast.
Give up? It was the Molly Pitcher Handicap from Monmouth Park.
Marta – the horse, not the Brazilian soccer star – won and paid $5. The New York Times’ account of the event noted the TV milestone, succinctly: “The program was televised in color.’’
