Mike Francesa hints at retirement

What better topic for my first post of 2012 than something about my favorite blog lightning rod, in which he references what could be big news . . . in 2014.
Yup, here we go: Mike Francesa said on the air this first business day of the year that his contract expires shortly after the 2014 Super Bowl, and indicated that he will "have a decision to make."
One of his options, obviously, will be leaving the daily, 5.5-hour talk show grind, certainly a reasonable option for a man who will turn 60 that March and has three young children and has done very well for himself financially.
Francesa hinted at that possibility on the air, speculating that it might be time to walk off into the sunset.
He signed a five-year contract believed to be worth about $5 million per year in 2008. It was set to expire at the end of 2013 but evidently he and CBS Radio extended it by a few months so he would be around for the Super Bowl be held at MetLife Stadium on Feb. 2, 2014.
