Orel Hershiser to join Miller, Morgan in ESPN's Sunday booth

Breaking: WatchDog has learned that Orel Hershiser will replace Steve Philiips in ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball" booth alongside Jon Miller and Joe Morgan, who are entering their 21st season together.

The 2010 premiere is April 4: Yanks-Bosox. What else?

(UPDATE: WatchDog has learned the new crew actually will debut March 23 for a spring training game between the Mets and Braves.)

Hershiser, who has been with ESPN since 2006, is a safe, solid choice. He is likeable and knowledgeable and brings pitching cred to the table.

Bobby Valentine would have been a more daring option, but there is a better chance of Hershiser being on the ESPN team for the long haul.
