First the quote, then the context and the response.

Peter Vecsey, the noted New York Post NBA columnist, said on WFAN, "I'm more black than Stephen A, Smith."

Vecsey was on WFAN with Steve Somers Wednesday night from 7-8 p.m. and took some calls from fans, as well. This particular comment was not generated by a fan's call, though. The topic of Isiah Thomas arose, followed by the notion that today's players can more easily relate to Thomas than they can current Knicks team president Donnie Walsh. It's a topic that has been talked about many times in many media circles.

Vecsey's comments did not come across with any racial negativity on air. When the Watchdog himself Neil Best asked Smith sitting courtside at Madison Square Garden during Wednesday night's Knicks game about the comment, he responded simply with "That's funny!"

Asked if he was offended, Smith said "Absolutely not."
