This is the sort of thing that makes me happy no longer to be a beat reporter:
Evidently someone called into 1050 ESPN Wednesday evening and asserted that Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro had been badly hurt in a car accident.
Thankfully, Newsday's own Katie Strang sprang into action on Twitter to debunk the story.
"I repeat,RUMOR of Rick DiPietro getting into a car accident tonight is FALSE...#Isles GM Garth Snow just talked to him..no truth to RUMOR."
