I'm a few days late on this, but RIP Peter Gent, author of the classic football novel, "North Dallas Forty," which like "Ball Four" before it gave fans a bluntly honest inside look at pro sports from an actual pro.
Gent's book ranked No. 25 on this all-time list of sports books that SI compiled a few years back.
