SportsNation: sexier in Spanish
I've been writing a lot here and on Twitter about John Skipper's post-upfront comments Tuesday, but not much about the upfront presentation itself.
That's partly because nothing particulary earth-shattering happened during the annual show for advertising types, this year co-hosted by SportsNation's Michelle Beadle and Colin Cowherd.
One highlight was when Jon Gruden was introduced and came onto the stage aiming to give Ms. Beadle a kiss on the cheek. But by the time he made his move, she already had turned away, apparently not seeing him coming.
Awkward!
Another highlight: The network announced a Spanish-language version of SportsNation on ESPN Deportes called Nacion ESPN, co-hosted by Adriana Monsalve.
Said Beadle: "It sounds sexier in Spanish."
Said Skipper: "It depends on who says it."
ESPN anounced that 25 World Cup matches would be shown on its new 3D network, that ESPNU would add a nightly show called "U:Nite" next spring, that there is a year-long, multi-platform initiative coming in 2011 called "Year of the Quarterback" and . . .
Oh, I don't know. There was a lot of stuff that went over my head that advertisers presumably care about. When it was over, a bunch of journalists and ESPN p.r. people went out for our annual lunch at ESPN Zone.
I ordered the steak salad.
