The Jon Jones-Glover Teixeira title fight previously reported for Super Bowl Weekend in Newark will not be taking place then, UFC president Dana White said Monday.

"That is not the Super Bowl fight," White said. "Jones-Teixeira is not happening on Super Bowl weekend. It was never a done deal."

White added that the Jones vs. Teixeira fight will "probably happen in March."

UFC 169 is scheduled for Feb. 1, 2014, at the Prudential Center. The UFC's annual Super Bowl Weekend show has traditionally been held in a Las Vegas venue. But, broadcast partner Fox has the Super Bowl this year -- at MetLife Stadium -- and executives wanted both events in the same area.

Jones (19-1) has defended his light heavyweight title six consecutive times, a UFC record. He last beat Alexander Gustafsson in what was his toughest defense to date. That bout at UFC 165 led to calls for an immediate rematch.

White said he wasn't close to making that match right away.

"It wasn't close at all," White said.

White said there are no injuries or anything else preventing the fight from happening then.

"We were talking about that possibly being a fight for Super Bowl," White said. "We didn't have that fight done. It's not happening on Super Bowl."

Alistair Overeem vs. Frank Mir remains on the UFC 169 fight card for Super Bowl weekend.
