Marloes Coenen becomes new Strikeforce women's champion

We don't live in a "Mad Men" world, which means it's time to treat and respect female mixed martial artists as real fighters rather than just cat-fighters.

Marloes Coenen proved once again Saturday night why this is so during her welterweight title shot at Strikeforce in San Jose. After being put on her back and eating a few punches from champion Sarah Kaufman in the third round, Coenen got wrist control, pinned Kaufman's arms in and locked in an armbar.

A few seconds later, Kaufman tapped out and Coenen became the new champion. It was an impressive display of jiu-jitsu and further exemplifies the fact that any fighter is just a few seconds away from losing, even if they have the dominant position at the time.

Coenen will make her first title defense against Meisha Tata, who won a four-woman, one-night tournament earlier this year.
