Nate Marquardt to address UFC release on Tuesday
Nate Marquardt, once a title contender at middleweight, will address his failure to receive medical clearance and his subsequent release by the UFC on Tuesday.
"I will personally be addressing all issues regarding my medicals, etc this Tuesday," Marquardt tweeted.
Quick refresher course: A short time before Saturday's weigh-ins for UFC Live on Versus in Pittsburgh, Marquardt did not receive medical clearance by the Pennsylvania athletic commission. Each state has different rules in place about disclosing medical exams, and Pennsylvania is among the strictest. Only Marquardt is allowed to reveal the reason.
But the assumption is that it must have been a serious infraction for UFC president Dana White to post a video on Tout.com through his Twitter account that Marquardt would be cut from the UFC's roster of fighters. It couldn't have been just because of how close it was to the event, right?
"Bottom line is, what Nate Marquardt did is bad enough to be cut from the UFC. ... I'm disgusted with him. He has no business fighting in the UFC," White said on the Versus pre-game show Sunday night.
Speculation will flow freely online until Tuesday when Marquardt says he'll address the issue. Marquardt was supposed to make his welterweight debut against Rick Story in the main event Sunday. Instead, Story fights Charlie Brenneman, and Cheick Kongo vs. Pat Barry was elevated to the main event.
