Melanie Oudin, who took the tennis world by storm on these very courts last summer, fell in straight sets to 28th ranked Alona Bondarenko, 6-2, 7-5
Oudin burst onto the tennis scene here last summer, beating Maria Sharapova Elena Dementieva before falling in the quarterfinals. Her bubbly personality and "believe" written on her sneakers won the hearts of tennis fans everywhere.
It's been a rough year for Oudin who came into the U.S. Open having lost her last four matches in a row. Not to worry, though. Oudin is 18. It's safe to say she's got a few years of competitive tennis left in her.
