Kim Clijsters will be play for her third U.S. Open title.
The defending champion used her speed and near-perfect shot placement to defeat No. 3 Venus Williams, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, in the semifinals Friday.
Clijsters , the No. 2 seed, will play Vera Zvonareva in the women’s title game at 7 p.m. tomorrow. Zvonareva upset top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki earlier in the day.
Clijsters has now won 20 straight U.S. Open matches. She won the tournament the last two times she entered – last year and 2005. In between, she took time off to have a baby, making her one of three mothers to win a U.S.Open. She is the first woman to defend her title here since Venus Williams in 2001.
