Bet this wouldn't have happened at Brown: Campus security at the University of Rhode Island had to help escort "Jersey Shore" housemate Paul "Pauly D" DelVecchio to safety Wednesday night when 300 to 400 students mobbed the outside of a building where the Johnston, R.I., native was visiting a friend.

The student newspaper, The Good 5 Cent Cigar, wrote a 900-word article describing the pandemonium. "Pauly D, have my babies!" the paper reported a girl screaming outside Eddy Hall, where DelVecchio was visiting in a ground-level suite for about an hour. "Someone break the window!" another girl yelled.

Students milled in the 44-degree weather until 10:15 p.m., according to the paper, when DelVecchio left the building with his bodyguard and a campus security SUV escorted the reality star off-campus for his safety. The bodyguard retrieved DelVecchio's white Mercedes S550, which he left parked nearby.

In a video posted on TMZ.com that belies the site's claim of "roughly 1,000" students and the presence of police, the squealing girls shooting the scene urge onlookers to run ahead to DelVecchio's car.

The last person to draw a crowd that big, the paper said, was Adam Sandler when he came to do a comedy gig.
