J.K. Rowling's 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' will become movie trilogy

Warner Bros. announced yesterday that J.K. Rowling's story, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" will be made into a trilogy with David Yates returning to direct the films and the famous author onboard to make her screenwriting debut.

The company says that the story is "set in an extension of her Harry Potter wizard world, the stories feature magical creatures and characters inspired by Harry Potter's Hogwarts textbook and its fictitious author, Newt Scamander."

E! News reports that Rowling stated the story is in no way a prequel or a sequel to the Harry Potter tales. "The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films," she said, "but Newt's story will start in New York, 70 years before Harry's gets underway."

Netflix tweeted the news Wednesday, with a video of The Rembrandts singing "I'll Be There for You," at the Central Perk pop up in Manhattan.
