Saying, "I lied to everyone about everything, even to myself," Jesse James, the estranged husband of film star Sandra Bullock, appeared weary and humbled in an interview that aired Tuesday night on ABC's "Nightline."

The motorcycle customizer and reality-show star acknowledged the infidelities that surfaced in March and ruined his marriage, and spoke about breaking the news to Bullock, checking into an Arizona rehab clinic afterward and losing the chance to be a full-time father to Louis, the infant Bullock adopted from New Orleans.

Here are some of the highlights of James' interview with ABC's Vicki Mabrey.

CONFESSING TO BULLOCK: "I told her basically everything, that I had affairs outside of our marriage. . . . I think she's had her suspicions in the past, but you know, I lied, and lied my way out of it."

WHY HE CHEATED: "Because basically, you know, I never felt good enough for anyone." He told Mabrey he doesn't think he has a sex addiction. "I think I do things to sabotage my life, including having affairs . . . It was about trying to push someone away that I thought was gonna leave anyway."

ATTENDING REHAB: Sex addiction and anger management "were two of the things I was there for, but the main thing I was there for was being a victim of childhood abuse" by a violent father.

ABOUT HIS ABUSIVE FATHER: "I was petrified of my dad. It wasn't so much getting my arm broken or getting kicked or whatever or punched, it was the in-between time, it was the fear of that happening again. It's really tough for me to think about now because [daughter] Sunny is the age that I was when my dad broke my arm."

ADOPTING A BLACK CHILD: "I didn't care . . . what color he was. My only prerequisite for adopting a baby: I want the baby that needs us the most."

ABOUT DIVORCE: James told Mabrey he knows he can't persuade Bullock to change her mind. "We're getting divorced. One hundred percent sure of that." It's not what he wants, he told Mabrey, but he hopes he and Bullock can maintain some sort of relationship in order to co-parent.

THE INFAMOUS "NAZI SALUTE" PHOTO FROM 2004: "I think out of anything this is why I'm doing the interview the most, because [after] dealing with losing my marriage and my son and embarrassing everyone . . . to be called a racist on top of that is, like, it makes me really sad seeing the photo and the way I look . . . I can tell by the look on my face it was a joke. That was funny then - probably for about a minute - but then looking at it in the context of now in my life, it's not funny."
