Hosting NBC's "Saturday Night Live" over the weekend, Grammy Award-winning hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion teasingly alluded to her home having been burgled on Thursday.
"Before the show starts," said the dual host and musical guest, 27, at the conclusion of her opening monologue, "there's something I've really been wanting to say. I've had some wins and I've had some losses, and I always get more wins. But I do pride myself on being an open book. So with that being said, I would like to address a certain incident that I'm sure is on everybody's mind."
After a suspenseful pause, the "Ungrateful” rapper continued: "No, I do not know why Popeyes took the Hottie Sauce off the menu. And hotties," she added, referring to her fans by their nickname, "if you want the sauce back, you need to take that up with the Popeyes lady, not me, OK?"
The star, born Megan Pete, became a Popeyes fast-food restaurant franchisee last October in a partnership that included chicken items with a two-month limited-edition Megan Thee Stallion Hottie Sauce. Her Los Angeles home was broken into Thursday, anonymous police sources told TMZ.com, by two thieves on surveillance video who broke through a back door and stole an estimated $300,000 to $400,000 in jewelry, cash and electronics. The Los Angeles Police Department has not formally confirmed details.
On Friday, Megan appeared to reference the burglary in a tweet, writing, "Material things can be replaced but I’m glad everyone is safe." It was unclear if she was referring to any house staff who might have been present.
Minutes later she added, "Hotties im really sorry but after SNL I really gotta take a break I’m so tired, physically and emotionally."
The multiplatinum music star, who won Grammys in 2020 for best new artist and for both best rap performance and best rap song for "Savage," counts among her hits the Cardi B single "WAP,” on which she is featured, and Ariana Grande's "34+35," featuring her and Doja Cat. Megan's most recent album, "Traumazine" (2022), went to No. 4 on the Billboard 200 album chart in August.
