"Sister Wives" polygamist Kody Brown, his four spouses and four of their 16 children seemed the very portrait of an all-American family Thursday on "Oprah" - with the bigamy investigation by their hometown Lehi, Utah, police barely mentioned.

"I don't even want to think about that at all," the voluble and chipper Christine Brown said when host Oprah Winfrey eventually brought up the probe. "We never asked for the state to give us any sort of acknowledgment or anything for our family," she added. The police findings were turned over last week to Utah County Attorney Jeff Buhman, who has indicated it could be months before his office decides whether to prosecute.

No fireworks erupted from the group as they talked about typical and not-so-typical family issues. The most emotional moments came when Meri Brown, the first and the only legally married wife, spoke of losing her job in the mental-health profession.

"I was just terminated from my position at work, for [doing] this show," she told Winfrey, her voice occasionally catching. "They were very accepting of me. It was just the situation - they just felt like they needed to protect the company, I think."

Second wife Janelle works outside the home, while third spouse Christine is a homemaker and newcomer Robyn is between jobs.

Meri Brown conceded the double standard of fundamentalist Mormonism, in which multiple husbands are not allowed.

"I can see how it can be looked at that way," she said. "As for taking on another man . . . that's not something we believe in."
